Okay, so I started my 3rd posting on the 6th of July.. So far so good..
It's tough being a 3rd poster in Medical because the expectation is so high, we even have to do MO's job.. *sigh*

So far I had 4 on-calls in medical.. anti-Jonah so far.. average of 6 admissions per night and only 1 pt collapsed on my watch.. hope it stays that way for the next 3+ months.. ;)

But honestly, no matter how late I got to go back home every night, it is not as stressful as Surgery.. AND new HOs are flocking in = less work!

ANDDD!! I'm taking the weekend off!!! weehooo~~~!

So many things to settle this weekend.. but i'm looking forward to spend tomorrow night with my Carriglea girls!!! *EXCITED*

It's been almost 2 months since I last posted something here!

My blogspot has been neglected! Oh nooo!! Same goes to all my social network accounts.. Rarely have I been updating and logging in to all these websites. Because...

1. the-same-old-excuses-everyone-keeps-giving... B.U.S.Y. : especially since I started my 2nd posting in Surgery.. which sux. I am in the 2 most horrible teams of surgery that anyone can possibly get.. (in HUKM at least). Oh yes, I am in Surgical posting now, not Medical. I am now working every single day even during weekends.. even on my birthday, which is TODAY!! (oops, terkeluar topik kejap)

2. you know that I lost my BB in February right?? I didn't have the chance to tell u that since I lost both my BB and my iPod touch, i bought myself an iPhone4.. I haven't even told u guys about it and now I lost my iPhone too.. all in the short course of 2 months.. I lost RM~5k in total!!! daayymmm.. that's like a slightly more than a month's pay.. *blood tears*. This time, it's not in the movie theater, but i lost it in the ward!! on the counter table!!!! seriously, FML... so now, i'm resorting to good old Nokia phone.. the type that it's so slim and light i can hang it around my neck.. like seriously.. no more smartphones for me..

anything else... lemme think...

my dear cousin treat me for bday lunch today in Secret Recipe after work.. and tonight my family is having a BBQ dinner.. yipppee~!! =D

but all the happiness stops when I think about having to go to work EARLY tomorrow morning and I'm oncall tomorrow!!! *HUGE SIGH*

February Updates

Hello peeps~!

It's been a while since I wrote something here.. Kinda miss blogging to be honest..

So, let's pick up where we left shall we?

2nd February was Mr fiance's 26th birthday!! =D

We had a really romantic candle-lit dinner in a French fine-dining restaurant somewhere in the city center. Sorry, no pictures allowed! =P

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, MY LOVE~!!

2 Fridays ago, my colleagues & I went for a dinner in TGIF, WangsaWalk.. we had great fun chatting & laughing away. Then some of us went for bowling & I went to watch The Green Hornet with Mr Fiance. That's when I lost my pouch.. which includes my Blackberry, my iPod touch, my ID, my licence, my ATM card etc etc... yeah, was really pissed off...

as a result, i'm RM2k poorer as I just bought myself a new iPhone4. Just settled with my temporary ID card & licence.. and I have to go to the bank tomorrow to settle all that.. Thank God I'm on a week-long holiday! *woot woot*

I've gathered all my holidays (well, just 8 days per posting) and enjoying the long holiday now before going on to the next posting.. which I have no idea which yet ... either Medical or Surgical posting... wish me luck!! Was actually hoping for Medical first so I could get the worst over and done with and save the lighter ones near to the big day!

To commemorate my end of O&G posting, Cik Jiah & I went for a spa retreat last Sunday in Aurora Beauty Spa Saloon in Ampang. Felt so good to be pampered and massaged from head to toe.. =)

Weekend Blues tips

weekend blues situation #1: what to do when you're sleepy but u have to drive somewhere on ur own +/- traffic jam

to avoid dozing off while stopping at the traffic light or stuck in a massive traffic
1. drink coffee or eat loads of kopiko (coffee-flavoured candies)
2. put on the radio on full blast (loud but still bearable to ur hearing level, that is)
3. sing along your favourite songs, with head-banging preferably.. as loud as u can, at the top of ur lungs with full emotion.. without any care in the world of what the dude in the car next to u might think
4. when there is an opportunity of speeding or overtaking the car in front.. go ahead! u need the adrenaline!!

weekend blues situation #2: when u feel u've had enough with people around u.. and feel tired of dealing with homo-sapiens..

1. buy urself a pet.. anything u like.. cats, fish, iguana
2. they'll make u feel wanted & needed..
3. talk to them and let your heart out.. they will listen & stare at you.. and they will not be judgmental..
4. all they will ever want from u as a return, is enough food & shelter (and of course cleanliness).. they won't ask for more.. well, except for a head-scratch or two..

PostPartum Haemorrhage (PPH)

I would consider myself lucky to be on-call on 2 nights in a week whereby 2 cases of PPH occurred requiring surgery. The best part is that I don't have to be the House Officer running back and forth to the blood bank, instead I was inside the OT to witness:

1. Total hysterectomy

- Para 4

2. B-Lynch suture

- Para 1 (with triplet pregnancy)

I have always been reading up and presenting about B-Lynch suture when I was a medical student. Now, after witnessing it with my own eyes, I think it is so cool! ;)

For House Officers out there, don't forget what you have to do in an emergency of PPH in the ward:

- ABC
- call for help (red alert)

- 2 large bore IV line & blood investigations: FBC, U&E, LFT, Coag screen, group x-match)

- crystalloid infusion

- monitor vital signs

Management of PPH

Uterine massage

Medical

→ 500mcg ergometrine IV/IM

→ Oxytocin infusion (40IU) → 10IU IV

→ Carboprost 250mcg IM (up to 4 doses)

→ misoprostol 800-1000 mcg PR

Bimanual compression

Surgical

Repair genital tract injuries

Uterine temponade (Rusch balloon)

Laparatomy

· B-Lynch suture

· Internal iliac/uterine A ligation → hysterectomy (50%)

As you know, I started work in PPUKM on the 1st of November (yeah, they've changed from H to PP). I am currently in O&G department.

I only did my tagging (where we have to learn stuff quick from another Houseman) in just a week, and started on-call on my own on my 8th day of "life" in that graveyard. So it was a freaking nightmare.. I was on-call every other day (EOD), which means (for non-medical readers) start work 7am today and come home at 5pm tomorrow and the cycle continues every day. I was off tag after day 7 and the 2nd week, I was on-call EOD again. (T_T)

Work has it's ups and downs (life in general is like that right?). Some days are fine.. not that many patients, a few discharges and no ward rounds with the Prof. But most of the days are hell, so many patients delivering at the same time, patient in high-dependency unit started to deteriorate, referrals and so many clerical things to do, and suddenly was called to assist C-section.. ALL AT ONCE!

And yes, to answer the burning questions in your mind, I do conduct deliveries, and not just put my fingers in ppl's vajayjays but cut & sew them as well.

Mum started complaining of how little time she got to see me at home, because most of the time I'll be sleeping in my room every chance I got, even in the car (when I'm not driving that is).

My friend, Aziah is in the same hospital but I've never met her in the hospital, NOT EVEN ONCE!!! Oh wait, I think I did in the first week, just her silhouette though... *sigh*

Okay.. okay.. fine... I do learn loadsss of things these past 3 weeks, plus I lost 2kg already.. So there is an up side to all of these... ;)

Earlier this week, I had a 5 days induction course here in the heart of Kuala Lumpur city. I was in Dynasty Hotel, Jalan Ipoh which is like 10-15 minutes drive away from my house (given that there is no traffic jam, of course).

It was an enjoyable experience, with a great roommate and making friends with other doctors. Everything else was great, even the food. Except for the cleanliness of the hotel. It does not live up to the standard of 4 star hotel at all. They need a major refurbishing and pest control operation from top to bottom.

Roomies: 2179 & 2173

Enough about the hotel. So during the course, everyone was informed of the next step in our life. Our postings to which hospital for the next 2 years. I got PPUKM in Cheras! (my 2nd choice) Yeayhh! In another word, I'LL BE STARTING WORK TOMORROW!!!! Am I ready for this??? T_T

Expect no updates at least for the next 14 days.. Tagging will start really early in the morning and finishes really late at night. Or maybe I'll be updating more than usual.. who knows.. heh.

Anyways, wish me luck peeps!! This is it... Bismillaahirrahmaanirrahimmm..

Bank Simpanan Nasional = BSN = Bodoh Sangat Nakmampos! (okay, takde M tp nk jugak tambah!)

Aku pergi BSN td dgn kakak aku, hajatnye nk active kan blk account aku yg dh 5 tahun tak jenguk. (sbb aku takde dlm negara ni). Kalau ikot rules & regulation kat buku akaun tuh, 7 tahun tak aktif baru la dia tutup akaun. So, previous years aku blk Msia pun takde la aku kesah nk gi aktifkn account tu sbb dah t'tulis mcm tu kan..

But td aku pegi nk msk kn duit, dia kata account dah tutup!!! Aku pun mcm WTH la kan, account anak buah aku pun 5 tahun tak aktif, msk rm50 semlm ok jee... Bila aku tanye, si minah kat kaunter ni yg lebih baik takyah kerje yg kene jumpe customer sbb takde budi pekerti yg Melayu banggakan sgt... dia kata 2 tahun je tak aktif account tutup. Dari WTH aku pun tukar WTF la kan.. (dalam hati je la masa tu... naseb baek kakak aku ada)

2-3 tahun lepas, kakak aku ada masukkan check. Aku ada dapat check dr sebuah institusi yg aku penah blaja sebelum fly dulu sbb aku jd facilitator masa minggu haluansiswa. Kira gaji aku la utk seminggu tu.. So, kalau nk ikotkan, takde la akaun aku tu tak aktif sampai 7 tahun kan?? Yg bestnye, minah kat kaunter td tu ckp, "Balance rm24 je, bukak akaun baru je dik..." (based on balance dlm buku yg aku tak update 5 thn)... Eh, hello! Abes check aku tu kau nk byr ke?? Tak kuasa aku nk bukak account kat situ lg.. 7 generasi aku pun tak akan lah!! Mati hidup semula pun jgn mimpi!!

Dia kata sbb aku pakai atm card dulu, tolak rm8 per year. Eh, cukup la balance aku kalau nk potong pun. Akaun CIMB aku pun tak aktif 5 tahun ari tu, aku blk last year masuk duit kluar blk terus aktif balik!! Apa barang?? CIMB pun aku pakai kad. Mmg potong rm8 per year, tp pada tahun yg aku gune je!! Tahun aku tak guna takde la charge jugak suka hati mak bapak dia.

Mmg la, balance aku dlm akaun tu takde la beribu berjuta. Tp surat ke ape ke takde pun sampai kat rumah, on printed 7 tahun, tetibe ckp 2 tahun. Aku rasa kalau aku buat court case ni bole menang! Bukan lah aku kesah sgt duit dlm bank tu, kalau nk burn pun burn la.. Bole je hidup takde duit dlm tu. Tapi jgn la ckp, "Dijamin oleh Kerajaan" tp tak ikot procedure langsung kan...

Lagi satu, pasal banking kat Malaysia.. sume bende dia nk charge. ATM card 8 hinggit setahun la, siap ada limit brape kali sebulan plak tu bole pakai. Pastu kalau nk guna ATM kene kat specific ATM bank tu je pulak, charge extra kalau guna atm lain dan macam2 lg..

Masa aku kat sana, bayar duty stamp je every year, pastu lantak la nk guna ATM card tu, xde yearly charge pastu suka hati nk cucuk atm mane FOC ok!

If you've been reading my blog, you knew the dilemma I'm having.. iPhone4 vs Blackberry. For me it's more than just a gadget. Choosing has other implications as well: College friends vs School friends, Facetime vs BBM.

Currently, I am using my Dad's Blackberry Curve (on loan until I made up my mind and of course when I can afford to buy my own.) *wink*.

I LOVE using my loaned Blackberry. Since I'm on BB, I rarely switched on my laptop (well, except for blogging, playing games and streaming). It is so convenient! Emails, notifications from Facebook and Twitter are all now directly bleeps to my phone and the red LED blinking away.

If only Nuffnang is kind enough to give me this, I'll be the happiest, luckiest girl in the whole wide world! ;)

2. You started to think of how to spend your money wisely, investments and you actually understand bankers' language, and understand your taxes.

3. You started planning to get married, not just thinking about it, but really started buying stuff and have a date in mind.

4. You started planning at least 2 years ahead, if not 10 years ahead.

5. You started to have Plan A and Plan B... and maybe Plan C.. in planning your career.

6. You started to hate it when you hear the "latest hits" on the radio.. and you started searching for "oldies".. 90s songs are considered oldies now okaaayyyy.. ??? *sigh*

7. You started to hate what you see on TV, you think teenagers are ridiculous with their fashion and music senses. Not mentioning the hair, make-up and the PDA.

I have sooo many things to share with you but.. but.. but..
Ermmm.. nope. I don't have any excuses. :P.. I'm not busy at all.. I have soo much free time it's killing me.. heh.

Apart from sending and picking up the kids to and from school, grocery shopping with my sisters, playing with my cats and lists of television series to stream online, I basically have nothing to do at home.. My friends are all working during week days, my boyfriend is busy busy busy... and the ministry of health are saying that they don't have enough doctors but are so freaking slow to send me my induction letter. pppffttt... I know, I'm complaining I'm bored to death now, but I will be complaining of how I wish for a holiday once I started working.. Homo-sapiens are never content with their lives. heh.

Let's see.. where shall we start...
I don't know when this trend of open houses and weddings in every corner during the month of Syawal started. As I remembered, spending Syawal in Malaysia (6-7 years ago), the invitations are not as many and the traffic was not as bad.. Really made u think twice to drive anywhere at all...

So I am taking this opportunity to wish the newlyweds CONGRATULATIONS on their weddings...

We sat next to each other in class when we were 11 years old.
We were then separated when I moved away.
But we stay in-touch until now (thanx to snail mail, then email, then Friendster and now Facebook).
Even when she and I were in Southern & Northern Hemispheres, thousands of miles apart.

Occasional get-together and lunches kept us updated (though I wish for more of these sessions).

Yesterday was her birthday & her engagement day.. So, wishing you..

I miss cooking and break-fast with them.

Some people are just plain selfish that sometimes makes u wanna bang your head on the wall and scream your lungs out.. (thank God it's Ramadhan and thank God we have blogs nowadays to let our steam off).

These kinda people always leave you with problems and headaches. I don't know whether they just purposely do things that will only satisfy them and only them without thinking the consequences to the people around them. It's probably pure ignorance or simply S.E.L.F.I.S.H.

Eh hello! Please la think one step ahead. Plan things out properly. If you expect people to be nice to you, be nice to them. Learn common courtesies, like 'thank you' and 'sorry'. These things are easy to do. My little gems also know how to say thank you and say please. Which planet are you living in huh?

p/s: this is not just about one person, this is about 2 people.. heh.

I passed my driving test today!!! weehooo~~!! FINALLY!!! After delaying it for 8 yrs, now I'll be driving around for the next 2 yrs with this sticker on my car..

(err... what car?). I mean my Mom's car or anybody else's who is not afraid to let me drive theirs... =P. I'll buy my own car soon... ;)

On a different note, my cat, Nottie is no longer with us.. *sobs*. She was run over by my sister when she was backing up the Merc from the driveway. We always check around the car to make sure Nottie wasn't around, and if she is we would lock her up in her cage. But today she was nowhere to be found before my sister back up the car. She suddenly came running out of nowhere and her life ended then.
In a way I am glad that I wasn't at home when it happened as I would have cried my eyes out witnessing such a tragedy. I have always been the one to feed her and play with her and hug her and bathe her..
I will always remember you and love u, Nottie~~ Rest In Peace...

My Ramadhan Routine

If you've been wondering what the heck am I doing during my free time now that I've finished my degree but still haven't started working, allow me to tell you..

Most of the days, early in the morning, I would accompany my sister to the market (Pasar Dato' Keramat) to get her supplies of fresh meat as well as some groceries for break-fast and dinner. And now, I'm starting to learn my fishes and what type of cooking is suitable for each fish. I told you, I am a domestic goddess in the making. heh.

When we got home, my sister would start cooking her Daging Cincang Asam Pedas which will be sold in Bazaar Ramadhan.

Yummy~!!

Myself, on the other hand, would help out my neighbour for his Pucuk Ubi Tempoyak for Bazaar as well. Help out as in volunteer work, and in the West, you still got paid for volunteering, so I will get my pay at the end of the month. =P

After I've worked my biceps (right arm mainly), chopping and slicing, I would then help my sister out with her cookies, thus building my right biceps some more, rolling the dough.

After prayers and some rest, some days we might go to super markets to get some groceries, and pick up the kids from school. Got home and help out my sister in the kitchen for our break-fast and dinner. Since this Ramadhan, I've only been to the bazaar once! (when I thought that was the thing I miss about fasting in Malaysia).
And I've been to the surau once for tarawikh as I am too tired to leave the house. I would do it on my own at home if I do not doze off first.

That's basically how I spend my day this Ramadhan.

So, if you're looking for Kampung style food for buka puasa (Daging cincang asam pedas, pucuk ubi tempoyak with or without petai, ikan patin masak tempoyak and daging salai lemak cili padi), you will find the stall in Taman Melawati's Bazaar Ramdhan. You won't miss it, just look for this periuk belanga. ;)

Last Sunday was a fun-filled day which started really early, at 4 in the morning! Me, Mr Boyfie and 5 friends from high-school went hiking. We were hoping to catch the sunrise at the peak, but the number of people went hiking on the same time on the same day was unbelievable, it was like having Kuala Lumpur's traffic jam on the steep hill, like seriously.. Exactly like MRR2 on a Friday afternoon, I'm telling you..
The climb up was great, just a few places with slippery slopes. But the journey down was not so bad, for me at least, because I fell down flat on my bum.. *sobs*. Blame the slippery slopes and my 3 year old Nike sneakers. =P

After we were back on flat-land, we went for breakfast and had a loooonggg discussion to continue our adventurous day.. So we decided on going to Kemensah river for a swim. Well, just dipping our feet for some of us. *wink*
The day continued on a lunch at Kampung Thai in Ampang.I still haven't found the best Pad Thai in Malaysia.. any suggestion people?

All in all, I had an awesome time with my friends laughing our heads off and updating on gossips. I just can't believe it has really been 8 years since I left school.. Daym, I'm old..

Remember Bill Cosby's 'Kids say the darndest things'? When you have 13 nieces & nephews, you can't help it but laugh at the silly things they say and do..

Example 1

My 1 1/2 year old nephew was slurping too much Chocolate Ice-blended only to stop and said, "Atit" (translated: It hurts!) and holding his head... He was having brain freeze! LOL

Example 2

My 2 1/2 year old nephew keeps calling my boyfriend "Abang" (translated: brother) instead of Uncle.. I keep on correcting him and he would refused to correct himself accordingly.. So I purposely refer to my boyfriend as "Abang" and he was confused and started calling him Uncle instead~! *wink*

Example 3

When my 7 year old niece was younger (around the age of 5), she refused to be straight-forward in saying things. For instance, she would say she's having stomach-ache instead of having to go to the loo. So, every time she said she's having stomach-ache, that's the cue she needed to go.. And when she's sleepy, she would say her eyes are getting smaller (in Malay: "mata adik dah kecik!") instead of wanting to go to bed! =D

These are just some examples.. These kinda things make you adore them no matter how naughty they are... =)

2 nights ago, I cooked dinner for the whole family. I made roast chicken with cranberry sauce and potato gratin for the main course. Thanx to my dear friend Kamas and her hubby who taught me Jamie's style!

Dad's B'day, Blackberry & Love triangle

Tuesday was Daddy's b'day.. We had home-made steamboat for dinner and Boston Cream Pie for Dad's b'day cake (Yummy~!)

For his presents, I bought him a frame, nails & sandwich bag (things he needed) which were wrapped nicely. He didn't know that we had bought him a Blackberry for the REAL present.. *wink*

Blackberry isn't as good as the hype really.. It refused to switch on even with the battery fully charged. It was fine this morning (I even had the chance to play with the new gadget for a while) but it went kaput. Thank God for warranties..

Earlier that day, I had a date with Mr. Boyfie. We went for a movie in TGV WangsaWalk. My 2nd time there, first was with my cousin for Karate Kid. 2nd time around was of course, for Eclipse.. I know it is quite late to watch it 5 days after the premier given that I am reading the books for the third time now. But I'm trying to avoid the crowds.. and to avoid being labeled as Twi-hards. And yeah, the love triangle in the books are less cheesy than the movies.
But the coolest part was of course the fighting scenes, especially when it involves the Cullens.

We voted, the best couple is... *drum rolls*

World Cup...??

I am never really into football.. and thank God my boyfriend is not really into it either.. ;)
But somehow I am glad I stayed up last night to watch Espana kicked Deutschland's ass off the cup.. woohooo~~!!
When I was in Cork, 2 girls in the house were really into football especially Kakya.. she would scream her lungs off everytime she watches a match. And everytime I joined them (usually only the final match of a league/cup), I would support the opposite team (just for the fun of it) as well for the fact that the team that I usually like would lose, so the girls are usually delighted.

So for this World Cup final, between Netherlands and Spain... I would definitely stay up again to watch the match.. Supporting, of course.. ESPANA~!! =D

p/s: sorry if my bad-luck would cost Espana the title, why not wait for Paul the Octopus...LOL

10th day in Malaysia.. weee~~!!

I'm home!!! for good!! yeayyhh!! =P
So, we arrived in KLIA on the 25th of June.. My sisters, brother & the kids were there..

and of course, mr. boyfie was there too! ;). and I was knackered, smelly and with blocked-nose. *sniffs*

The next evening, we went to RedboxRia in Sogo for my welcome home party as well as birthday celebration for my niece, my nephew and my sister.

It was the 1st time since i-can't-remember-when, all 7 siblings were gathered under one roof.

And then there were hanging out sessions with cousins and Wii at their brand-new home in Sering Ukay. (we should have taken pictures, adik!)

And then there were times I just sat at home, with tissue papers surrounding me on the bed and Charlaine Harris accompanying me.

Yesterday was a very interesting day indeed.. Spent the whole day at Mr. Boyfie's parents', *coughs* my future in-laws' *coughs*(InsyaAllah). Had lunch there and brought them home-baked scones (Mr. boyfie's favourite!) and played bowling @ Alamanda with the whole clan afterwards. ;)

Oh! And I'm in the process of getting my driving licence! Finally!! =P

Goodbye Cork... sobs

I just finished packing my luggage and sealed my last box. So all together I have 3 large boxes and 1 medium box to be shipped off. It really is a challenge to pack 6 years of life and ship it halfway across the globe.

Definitely going to miss everything about Cork.. the small city but has almost everything u want, the 4 seasons, the friendly people that would hold the doors for you and you can smile to anyone passing by you, everything is within walking distance and half an hour walk is possible. My beautiful university, which I am proud to say that I graduated from. My classmates, my teachers and even the staff..

And most of all, I am going to miss my family here.. The Carriglea Girls.. No more birthday celebrations, no more chit chatting and gossiping, no more cooking together in the huge kitchen, no more shared tears and laughters, no more game nights.. and baby J!! *sobs sobs*

To those who are staying and working here starting 1st of July, ALL THE BEST and I know you girls are very capable and competent. And to those who are going back, see you in Malaysia and GOOD LUCK working in a new environment!!

p/s: Hope I won't cry too badly at the airport in a few hours time..

Dad & Mum in Ireland Part 3 - Graduation Week

This week was really chaotic!!! Since the girls and their families arrived, the only time I rested was during sleep! But all the sweats and muscle aches were all worth it! Happy times~~! =D

After all the cleaning up and picking them up from the airport & bus station, my parents & I went to Fota the next day with Mas & family.. Dad & the Cardiologist went for a round of golf and the rest of us went to Fota Wildlife Park! It was a really great place for an afternoon walk, seeing all the wildlife, touched a llama AND I got to spend time with the little boy!! (not gonna cry.. not gonna cry... breathe.. breathe..). Won't be seeing him until I dunno when... *sobs*. I've seen him grown not just for the past 1 and a half years, even when he was still inside the womb, I watched him grow... OK, change the subject!!!

Anyway, the next day we had a pre-graduation photo session with AizzouraPhotography, as a graduation present from the Doctor (thank you Kak Sus! We love you!!). It wasn't easy to be a model.. Posing is harder than you think it is.. HAHA. So u can imagine, we had salon appointments in the morning, facials and mani-padi, make up etc before the photo shoot. And we had our International Pre-Graduation Dinner afterwards, tiring~!! But again, it was all worth it.. *wink*

The next day then was GRADUATION DAY, yeayh~! Again, very very very tiring day but HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY times~!! =D

After graduation, we had our 3rd photo-session for studio pictures. And followed by BBQ with all the families. Mum cooked nasi dagang, Kak ya's family cooked Laksa Sarawak for the main course. Yummy~~!!
The next day, Mum went to Killarney & Tralee with the others and I spent the day with Dad in city center followed by another dinner gathering in Carriglea.

Okay, that's a long one.. I better get going, Dad is giving me the look signaling it's time I have to continue my packing.. *sigh*

The girls are back in Cork, so the three of us were cleaning up the house the whole day to welcome the girls and their families. But before we started mopping & vacuuming (and Dad cleaning the front & backyard), we henna-ed our hair using LUSH's Caca Noir . I've been using this product for a few years now and I LOVE it! You need effort to put it on and to wash it off but it is all worth it.. *wink*. It leaves your hair shiny and smooth, just like post-salon treatment (no kidding!).

The down-sides are it will create a mess and the smell sticks with you for couple of days.. but I love it nonetheless.. =)
The other down-side is the fact that LUSH is not in Malaysia.. *sobs* (the nearest shop is in the Philippines!!) huhuhuhu.. Guess I need to stock up and ship them to Malaysia.. *sigh*

Dad & Mum in Ireland Part 2

We started our tour around Ireland on Wednesday. Left Cork after brunch and drove up to Dublin. We spent a night there in Abbott Lodge on Lower Gardiner St, just off O'Connell St. It was a really decent place and was really close by to the Spire and Henry St. We did a little bit of shopping, had coffee, continue shopping and had briyani for dinner @ Madina. =)

The next day, left Dublin after breakfast and head up to the OUTLET in Banbridge. It was heaven-on-earth for Mum & me but a living-hell for Dad! LOL. Dad allocated 2 hrs for shopping but we were there for almost 6 hrs!! How time flies when you're shopping! So we bought some duvet covers from Sanderson, GAP for nephews and for myself of course, and we spent hours and hours in Clarks and went in other shops as well (you can click the link for the list of shops there). So Banbridge gave Dad headaches and left him with thinner wallet. *wink*

After Banbridge, we went up to Belfast and spent the night there. We went to Queen's University and drove around city center and passed by the port where the Titanic was built. We stayed in Holiday Inn Express, nearby Queen's University and had world's greatest fish & chips (they claimed it themselves) heh. I had the scampi instead. =P

The next day after breakfast, we headed up to county Antrim up to the Giant's Causeway. It was breathtaking~! Even when the weather wasn't really on our side, it was still worth all the hours spent driving up north.
From Giant Causeway, we headed towards Galway on the same day. We drove through Londonderry city and stop by for lunch.. we had Fillet 0'Fish from McD!! haha. *don't forget to ask for toasted buns for Halal, my Muslim friends*. We also stopped by Sligo town for Dad's cigarette break and to empty out our bladders. heh.

Arrived in Galway quite late and had some trouble finding Ocean Crest B&B on Salthill because we did not have the city map and the roads are really confusing. But it was a really nice place with serene view of the Galway Bay. For dinner, we had Indian cuisine as we are all had enough of fish & chips. (we can't live without rice really) =P. With our full stomach, we did a quick drive-thru Galway's city center and too tired and full to stop for pictures. *sobs*

The next day after breakfast, we took a walk along the waterfront on Salthill before heading off to Cliffs of Moher. The routes to the cliffs from Galway was unbelievable!! Although the road was really bad (poor Dad had to drive all the way), but the scenery was indescribable!

From the cliffs, we stopped by Limerick and visited the landlady I stayed with during my ENT rotation in 4th year and Surgery rotation in March. She made us a really nice home-cooked meal and had a really great time chatting with her. After we said our goodbyes, we headed back to Cork and ended our "Touring Ireland in 4 days".

We literally go AROUND the island driving with no GPS.. all we had was a good driver (my Dad is 65, mind you.. and he drove by himself all the way) and a great map reader with great sense of direction (that's ME!) =P

This is a delayed post.. I was in Tralee last weekend with friends and the little cheeky boy.. It was a great weekend even when the weather was not really on our side. It was a weekend full of good food and great company~! =)

Sorry readers, for the lack of updates!

So, since my birthday (almost a month ago), I have finished my exams and I have got the results!
Alhamdulillah, thank God the Almighty, I MADE IT!!! 1 yr premed + 5 yrs of medschool is officially DONE!

Results were out last Tuesday (almost a week after last exam), and I got more than I hope for.. I cried my eyes off looking at the result and a friend was asking whether it was a happy or sad tears.. Thank you to my study-group mates.. U girls rock! and of course thank you to my parents and family who always thought of me in their prayers.. as well as warm wishes from friends.. I LOVE EACH AND EVERYONE OF YOU!
Now, I am Dr. Farah Hana Husein (MB BCh BAO).. alhamdulillahhh..

Since the last day of exam, I have been out and about.. active socially with loads of activities, and visiting the gym (tho not as often as i should). Gotta lose some kgs before graduation day!! *excited*
oh, and mum n dad r coming over soon!! *double excitement*

Now, I have to start packing my stuff for shipping, spring cleaning the house and wait for mum n dad to arrive!!!

A, is a cute 7 year old girl, a little bit on a chubby side and loves singing. She has a big sister who is 2 years older and weighs less than her.

One day, A and her family had dinner at her granddad's house. She was just about to help herself for a second serving when her father said, "A! Stop eating! You're gonna get fat!". She replied to her father, "It's my body! I can do whatever I want with it!" (keep in mind she is 7 year old!!) And the concerned father said to her, "But I am the one buying your clothes, my money!" A had nothing to say to that now.

Her father continued, "I tell you what. Once your aunt came back from an-oversea-country-that-shall-be-nameless-here, I'll send her, you and your cousin (who is also a little bit on the chubby side) to a nearby lake so that all of you can jog together and lose that extra pounds"

Of Idol and Eyes

Saw my idol today, if you remembered, my NCHD Dr. NR from my Obs & Gynae rotation in 4th year. I was so excited to see her, and so was she! Handshakes & cheek kisses were exchanged, and we asked each other's well-being. Then she started asking, "So, are we making an obstetrician out of you yet?" OOpppss.. tough question to answer now. I still think it's too early to tell. So many other things to put into consideration as well.. hmmm.. Ah, well.. plenty of time to think about it.

On a totally different matter, I really need to do an eye check.. SOON!!! My eyesight is so poor nowadays, have to squint to look at things now.. Too much time spent in front of the laptop, I reckon. I have a pair for my astigmatism, but definitely need an upgrade. Last year, my visual acuity was 6/4 (checked during Ophthalmology rotation). It's probably 6/60 now..! (exaggeration, I know). Just hope I don't have to spend too much as it is waaayyy cheaper back home.. (just over 3 months to go!!). And hope I can squeeze in a last minute appointment in Specsavers tomorrow~! Wish me luck!

In between ward round and clinic this morning, I had a nice chat with my partner (as in pal during rotation, not the other kind) over coffee.
Mostly we talked about marriage.. =P

Started off, of course, with gossips.. That's what girls do over coffee, not talking about what's going on in Haiti or the political instabilities in this country, church burnings by good-for-nothings in that country etc. (BUT we did talk about the implementation of HPV vaccine among 12 yo in Ireland though..) *wink* -> Note: possible Paeds (or O&G) essay question in April, people!!

Then she was asking me about why Malaysian (esp Malays) in our class, who are either: "her baby is almost 1 year old", "she just had a baby", "just married", "they're getting married" or "what?? she's married???!!" *LOL*

She then asked me the inevitable question, "when are you getting married?", so I asked her back the same question.. =P. She made a good plan of getting married around 26/27, and have a child at around 29/30. You're still young, darling.. You can afford to wait that long.. As for me, I am almost a quarter of a century!! And grey hair just keep on popping up.. (NO PRESSURE, MR BOYFIE) =P

She said something, and I share the same opinion, regarding having a non-medical boyfriends or future husbands.. Isn't it boring to come home after a long day at the hospital and to be talking about medicine even at home?? And isn't it sad when you come home post-call and your husband isn't there because he is on-call?
Yet again, there are always pros and cons on everything.

This brings on other issues: about men and their ego & inferiority complex and what not. In this part of the world, those issues are like so outdated. No one cares about what you work as, or how much you earn. The mentality is different at the other end of the world. All the "aunties" would start talking behind your back and a husband would even divorce his wife just because she earns more than him (and they were in the same field, for goodness sake!). I quote another friend, "I WOULD EASILY SCORE MYSELF A DOCTOR IF I CARE ABOUT MONEY, STATUS AND WHAT OTHER PEOPLE WOULD THINK OR SAY ABOUT IT." Well said and totally agreed with ya! I guess it's up to the guys now to accept whatever coming his way. Probably it's easier for girls to accept it than guys, and it is easier for us to say 'ignore it' because sometimes we just can't understand what you are going through as God made us feel and look at things differently.

Interestingly enough, my dad and I were talking about the same topic last weekend! (about getting married and stuff). It was kinda embarrassing talking about this with my father, but at the same time I am relieved that I can talk about it with him. And he even said, I can talk to him about everything and anything, he's always there for me. (Awwwww.. isn't he the greatest!!). And he even started to ask around about the price range of venues, catering, wedding planner and all!!!! (Errrkkk...)

I have been thinking of buying myself a new comfortable and "safe" pair of boots for me to go through icy mornings without walking like an old grandma and missed the bus because I can't run in my regular Hush Puppies, not even with my Nike runners.. (thanks to last year's incident, I am traumatized.. =P)

I've been eyeing UGG boots but I guess there's no point of spending that much when I will probably be wearing them up until this coming spring only (imagine me wearing them in Malaysia, walking around in Bintang Walk.. gilo ko apo?? =P)

Anyhoo, I was rummaging through our shoe racks and our little storage room beneath the staircase.. and guess what I found! A forgotten pair of boots that met all the criteria I needed in these gloomy days.. It's comfortable, definitely "safe" and surely will keep me warm (well, below ankle, that is..). Bought this when I was in premed but rarely wore them.. =P. I love you, Mr baby-blue CAT~!

Was walking to the hospital for my night shift in O&G's ER just now.. I even tried walking on an icy patch with them, and I DIDN'T SLIPPED~! weeeehooooo~~!

So it's the time of the month and I was late 5 days.
Delays always occur when I am stressed out, eg during big exams and during the emotionally unstable time of leaving Malaysia.. But I don't have an explanation for being stressed out this month, maybe my final year project.. maybe.. hmmm..

Anyhoo, Ponstan (mefenamic acid) usually does the trick but sadly I ran out of my wonder drug and stuck with Nurofen Plus (Ibuprofen and Codeine). Supposedly it's better than Ponstan as it has codeine in it, but after finishing half a packet, I still don't feel much relief.. well, only for the fisrt couple of hours.

D*mn u clots! Come out already!! I had to miss one whole day of class just to be in bed tossing and turning! Urrrggghhhhhh!!

A day in a life..

I am currently doing my tutorial block rotation for 4 weeks.
Basically, the whole month is just tutorials (as the name suggested), shadowing intern for a week and attachment/shadowing other members of the team (namely the physiotherapist, occupational therapist, nurses, radiologist etc).

Last Friday morning, I was shadowing a nurse from 9am until 1pm. I consider myself lucky to be attached to an enthusiastic nurse who wants me to really live a day (well, half a day really) in a life of a nurse. Directly after introducing myself, I started changing bedsheets all around the wards. Now I am able to put on flat sheets and make them really crisp! (I usually avoid buying flats, prefer fitted or valance sheets). Well back to the story.. Then I had the opportunity to help change an old lady's diapers and help her wash her back, put her clothes on etc. Did some manual handling, coercing a patient to eat her lunch and was shouted at by a patient because he said we treated him like a baby (fed him and lift him up).. I was wearing a short-sleeved white coat and I buttoned up all the way to move around easily, and everyone started calling me a nurse, even my classmates!

It's amazing the workload these nurses are facing everyday! After being with them for a day, I understand why they sometimes do not get along with the doctors.
To all the nurses out there, Thank You for your hard work and you are greatly appreciated!
To all the doctors and doctors-to-be, we need to put ourselves in someone else's shoes to understand them.
So, stop b*tching behind each other's back and work as a team!!

Final Med, 1st rotation = General Practice

For the past 4 weeks, I was attached to a practice in Cork.
Our daily activities include 2 hrs sit-in with a GP, 1 hr tutorial, a session for audit/reading time/evidence based medicine, a session with a nurse/physiotherapist/nursing home/pharmacist.
The practice and doctors are excellent and I enjoyed my 4 weeks there.
Ended the rotation with an exam on Friday.
GP rotation contributes to 7.5% of final marks for Medicine module. =)

Vampire-related stuff

If u've read my post in January this year, you would have known my obsessions with vampire-related story books. (L.J. Smith, Anne Rice, Stephenie Meyer etc). And I love watching vampire-related movies/tv series as well (Anne Rice's, Twilight, Blade, True Blood..) No, not Buffy.. That was lame.. =P

What was getting me excited is the new TV series on CW, The Vampire Diaries. It is an adaptation from L.J. Smith's Vampire Diaries series.. Yeayhh!! Hope it turns out well though.. Because it could be lame now that all the vampire-related stories are a trend now.

Since we're on this topic, I might as well recommend HBO's original series, True Blood to all you vampire fans out there.. Just finished with 2nd season now. I love the story line and Anna Paquin is such an amazing actress (been her fan since she was in the Piano-1994. She won an Oscar for that one!)

I know I should cut down hours spent watching TV series now that I am in my final year, but some series are just too hard to resist! *wink*
